This October, Fast Company sat down with Patagonia founder, Yvon Chouinard, to talk about the sustainability myth, the problem with Amazon and why it’s not to late to save the planet. We knew this article would be inspiring but didn’t expect to shed a few tears of hopeful joy because of what Chouinard has to say. He talks politics and propaganda, reinventing capitalism and makes the profound point that there are no rainbow trout on Mars. A favorite takeaway from the article is where Chouinard says that “Everything man does creates more harm than good. We have to accept that fact and not delude ourselves into thinking something is sustainable. Then you can try to achieve a situation where you’re causing the least amount of harm possible. That’s the spin we put on it. It’s a never-ending summit. You’re just climbing forever. We hope that the first snowfall has you warm and cozy, and in the hygge spirit- ready to light a candle and sip a warm beverage. So next time you’re stocking up on coffee or tea, consider buying in bulk and using your own container to transport it from the shop to your home. Buying looseleaf tea helps to ensure it is a pure leaf tea, rather than manufactured with added flavorings. And did you know that many tea bags are often sealed together with glue containing micro plastic? So even if you avoid some waste by composting the tea bag itself, you are contributing to micro-plastic pollution in your compost and beyond. Besides the health benefits, displaying loose leaf tea in a reclaimed jar might just add a certain festive flair to the counter top.
