Sharing our favorite quote by Kitty O’Meara which sums up so many emotions… you may have seen it circulating but it bears repeating-

And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows.

And the people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.

While we would not have chosen to live through a global pandemic, it is so encouraging to see the positives that are coming out of this chaotic time. And we also can’t help but think about what we are capable of when we all come together as a community, working towards a common goal.

It can feel like there is little to celebrate during this confusing time, however its very encouraging to know that the earth is breathing much better these days. The image above was taken by NASA’s Earth Observatory satellite showing concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, a noxious gas emitted by motor vehicles, power plants, and industrial facilities. The maps show NO2 values across China from January 1-20, 2020 (before the quarantine) and February 10-25, 2020 (during the quarantine). While social distancing of a mass quarantine comes with economic consequences as well as a spectrum of emotions, we are excited that this slow down also has positive impacts on the environment. It’s hopeful to think that we can change the pace of pollution with such little time.

Local

Social distancing is making it hard to gather and live as we normally would. But the beautiful weather we are experiencing is lending itself nicely to getting outside and at the very least, walking. While we likely won’t be able to gather for the annual Earth Day celebration on Wednesday, April 22 this year, we’re encouraged to get outside and host a solo cleanup walk in our neighborhood or favorite park or trail. Join us! You’ll see all kinds of (plastic) trash tucked into the grasses and shrubs. Remember your trash bag and gloves for personal protection. The earth will thank you.

Do you have some extra time on your hands, maybe going a bit stir crazy… have you considered an organizing project? Might we suggest a refresh of your medicine / supplement cabinet and drawers:

1. Start by consolidating all medicines and supplements by pulling them out from all different drawers, cabinets, etc.

2. Toss all of the items that you no longer use or that are expired. Please follow the guidelines for properly disposing of expired medicines so that they stay out of our waterways.

3. Place them back in their proper place - we like to keep everything in one drawer or cupboard in the kitchen, so that no matter who is looking for what, everything is all together.

   *During these days as a more than obvious reminder, we keep the daily immune boosters and important medicines out on the counter in plain view.
